Volt & Velo exists for one kind of person: the value buyer who wants 90% of the bike for 40% of the price, and is tired of “best e-bike” lists that ignore what things cost, bury the trade-offs, and claim to have ridden twenty bikes they clearly did not. We are the opposite of that. We tell you the price, the spec, the catch, and when to skip a product entirely.

Who writes this

Volt & Velo is written by Stephen V., an e-bike enthusiast — genuinely into value gear, not a credentialed expert and not pretending to be one. Stephen is an e-bike enthusiast — genuinely into value gear — who reads the manuals, compiles the published specs, and does the math. No lab coat and no test bench: Volt & Velo has not ridden every bike it writes about, and says so. What he brings is a habit of checking the spec sheet against the price, computing what a bike actually costs to run, and telling you plainly when to skip one. If that sounds modest, it is on purpose: we would rather be honest about what we are than borrow authority we have not earned. The whole site is built on the idea that a careful reader of spec sheets, with the math shown, is more useful to a value buyer than a borrowed lab coat.

How we actually work

We compile the specifications manufacturers publish — motor watts, battery watt-hours, weight, class — and we reason from those, plus price and honest buyer-fit, to our picks. We compute the things nobody else bothers to, like what a bike really costs to charge, and we show the arithmetic so you can check it. We cite our sources. And where a brand will not state a figure, we print “Not published” rather than guessing. The full method is on our How We Review page.

What we don’t do

We have not ridden every bike we write about — we own no test fleet and run no lab, and we say so plainly rather than implying otherwise. We do not invent reviews, star ratings or “we tested it for 300 miles” claims. We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage, and a commission never changes which product we recommend. Where we have genuine first-hand perspective, we frame it as exactly that — personal, and kept separate from the spec facts.
