The catch is that Amazon lists everything — the genuinely good budget brands sit right next to no-name bikes with inflated spec claims and uncertified batteries. How to shop e-bikes on Amazon without getting burned

Three rules. First, trust watt-hours, not the range claim — divide the “up to X miles” by two for a realistic throttle number. Second, look for a UL certification(UL 2849 or 2271) in the listing; its absence is not proof of danger, but its presence is a real signal. Third, read the one-star reviews first— on budget e-bikes they tell you about the failure modes (controller faults, battery sag, shipping damage) that the marketing never will.

Whatever you buy, budget for a proper lockin the same order — an e-bike is exactly the kind of visible, valuable target thieves look for.

What about the premium brands like Lectric or Aventon?
