Volt & Velo

Editorial Policy

The rules we hold ourselves to — independence, no fabrication, and how we fix mistakes.

Independence

Our recommendations are ours. We are funded by affiliate commissions (see the affiliate disclosure), but a commission never decides a ranking. Where a cheaper product is the better buy for the reader — even when a pricier one would pay us more — the cheaper one is our pick. We regularly recommend that readers spend less, buy nothing in a category, or wait, because that is sometimes the honest answer.

How picks are chosen

Picks are reasoned from published specifications, price and honest buyer-fit, using the method on our How We Review page. We rank on what a product delivers for the money, not on brand, not on commission rate, and not on what a manufacturer would like us to say. We do not accept payment for placement or ranking, and we do not accept free products in exchange for coverage.

No fabrication — the rules we will not bend

  • We never invent reviews, testimonials, star ratings, or review counts. There are none anywhere on this site that are not clearly sourced.
  • We never claim to have tested, ridden or owned a product we have not. We are explicit that we work from published specs, not a test lab.
  • We never fabricate a specification. Where a maker does not publish a figure, we print “Not published.”
  • We never show a fabricated or stale price. Prices are live, dated, and allowed to expire rather than mislead.
  • We never invent a credential. Our writer is an enthusiast, described as exactly that — not an expert, engineer or certified professional.

Sourcing

Factual claims are cited. Specifications trace to the manufacturer or retailer listing they were read from; safety, legal and health claims trace to authorities such as the CPSC, PeopleForBikes, the EIA and the CDC. Every page that makes such claims lists its sources.

Corrections

We will get things wrong — specs change, listings update, we make mistakes. When we do, we want to know. Our contact page has a correction path; if you flag a genuine error, we will verify it against the source and, if you are right, fix it promptly and note the correction. Prices refresh daily and money pages are reviewed at least quarterly and at each model-year change.

Health and safety notes

Volt & Velo is written by an enthusiast, not a doctor, lawyer, electrician or safety engineer. Our safety and legal notes are general guidance drawn from cited authorities, not professional advice. Always follow your product’s manual, your local e-bike laws, and lithium-battery safety guidance, and consult a professional for your specific situation.
