A treadmill sets the pace and you keep up with it — the machine is in charge, and the psychological experience is one of compliance. Where the treadmill genuinely wins
There are conditions where the machine is simply the right call, and pretending otherwise would be useless. If your local roads have no shoulder, no bike lane and fast traffic, a treadmill sidesteps a safety problem that is not yours to fix. If you need precisely controlled intervals — exact pace, exact incline, exact repeatability — a belt delivers that better than terrain does.
